EcoDistricts® is a national organization advancing a new model of urban development to empower just, sustainable, and resilient neighborhoods.

Using tools such as the Protocol, EcoDistricts Certified, and the EcoDistricts AP credential, communities take a collaborative and holistic neighborhood-scale approach to community design to achieve meaningful changes that matter to people and planet. EcoDistricts® aims to mobilize, empower, and accelerate sustainable and equitable urban development leadership throughout North America and beyond. The Capitol Hill EcoDistrict was the first ecodistrict in the Pacific Northwest to become certified in 2021.

EcoDistricts® identifies three imperatives that focus strategic planning and projects on sustainable community development:

Embracing equity means identifying and acknowledging community members most vulnerable to change and ensuring that they have the opportunity to participate and lead decision-making.

Resilience is the capacity to function so that all people can withstand social, economic, and environmental shocks and stressors.

Cities are responsible for a majority of global greenhouse gas emissions and must build a pathway to carbon neutrality.
